No Cost Energy Saving Controls
No Cost Energy Saving Controllers can be provided and installed through the Statewide Midstream Water Heating Program. All Hotels, Motels and Multifamily Buildings within an approved California territory can have a Demand Recirculation Controller provided through the program which includes installation.
Controller Provided and Installed
Through funding with the Statewide Water Heating Program, the energy saving controller that is approved for this measure is a Demand Recirculation Controller.
The Demand Recirculation Controller is a gas and electric savings device that will eliminate the wait for hot water at your building. The standalone unit controls the recirculation pump and modulates storage tank temperature based on demand which saves thousands of gallons of water per year, electricity and gas.
Hotels, Motels and Multifamily Properties benefit from the type of controller since they have larger occupancy rates. If eligible, your building can also remotely monitor your domestic water heating equipment with Remote Monitoring which is also included.
controller Capabilities and Benefits
The Demand Recirculation Controller will help your Hotel, Motel or Multifamily building in the following ways:
- Save Water and Energy
- Increase Building Water Heating Efficiency
- Reduce System Wear and Tear on Water Heating Equipment
- Reduce Distribution Heat Losses
- Reduction of Pinhole Leaks
- No Upfront Costs or Maintenance
- Provided 100 Percent Free of Charge
- Remote Monitoring Capabilities Included
How To Have One Installed
Please contact us so we can qualify your location internally. For properties that do not qualify they may be eligible to receive a Temperature Modulation Controller through the SoCalGas Multifamily Energy Savings Program. The Temperature Modulation Controller automatically adjusts the water temperature based on hot water demand at your multifamily property. Apartment buildings can expect to receive between 15-20 percent savings per month on this type of control system.
For the Demand Recirculation Controller or the Temperature Modulation Controller, Our internal Program Director will qualify your building and then connect you directly with the dispatching department for installation.
Common Questions and Answers
Please reach out to our internal Program Director, Juliana Campbell to see if you qualify.
For Hotels and Motels you need to have more than 10 units. For Multifamily properties, you need to have over three units.
You need to have a recirculation pump installed with an available power outlet nearby so that the Demand Recirculation Controller can be plugged in. If your recirculation pump is hardwired, you need to have an available power outlet.
No. Installations are fast and take around thirty minutes. We do not shut off your water and there is no notice required to your tenants as they will not have a service interruption.
There are three temperature sensors that are placed via installation tape.
Temperature Sensor One (T1) is placed on the Return Line. Temperature Sensor Two (T2) is placed on the Cold Water Pipe. Temperature Sensor Three (T3) is placed on the Storage Tank.
Your existing, functioning recirculation pump is plugged directly into the controller. The Demand Recirculation Control is then plugged into the wall.
Note: There is no electrical or renovations done to your existing water heating equipment.
There is no paperwork or applications involved for us to provide and install the Demand Recirculation Controller. There might be an inspection from the program to verify installation who will reach out to you directly.
There are no upfront costs or maintenance on the Demand Recirculation Controllers. The lifespan of the equipment is ten years, after that time period we will get in touch with you for a replacement through the same rebate program or a similar one.
Remote Monitoring can be included at no cost. The Demand Recirculation Controller is compatible with 4G Networks. If you decide to opt out of Remote Monitoring, or if you do not have WiFi that extends to your water heater/boiler room then, you can still receive the controller. If you would like a demonstration of the Remote Monitoring Platform, please contact us.
